Beautiful Porcelain
Porcelain has me captivated. Just another in a very long line of potters who have coveted its unique properties, stretching all the way back through the Medici court of Florence, to the Tang dynasty of China over 2000 years ago. The historic choice of emperors and king’s, it remains the most expensive and still the most beautiful of clays.
Porcelain is tricky and disappointment is always just round the corner. All the more exciting and satisfying are the times you open the kiln after the final firing to find your babies perfectly formed just as you’d imagined. That wonderful ‘Christmas morning’ feeling it gives you just about makes up for the heartbreaking losses you’ll inevitably sustain in other firings.
So why porcelain?
If it’s such an expensive and challenging clay, why would anyone choose to work with it?!
It’s silky soft to throw and smooth to the touch when finished well, it feels like no other clay
Its translucency allows sunlight to glow through a finely thrown or hand built pot, a property not shared by other clays.
Its whiteness and smoothness makes the most gorgeous foil for surface decoration.
And the icing on the cake, Its strength and durability is superior to most other clays.
the combination of these special qualities mean I can be sure that my pieces can withstand the burden of everyday use and keep their looks .
virtually all of my pots are dishwasher and microwave safe!
All these special characteristics mean my porcelain pots are more than just display pieces - they’re made to be used and loved, to bring joy to those little everyday moments. There really is no other clay quite like porcelain.
